Our research focuses on Human-centered Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence and visualization of spatial and spatio-temporal data as a tool for visual analytics, exploratory data analysis, problem solving, and decision making.
Drs. Gennady Andrienko and Natalia Andrienko are lead scientists responsible for visual analytics research at Fraunhofer Institute IAIS and full professors (part-time) at City, University of London.
They co-authored monographs "Exploratory Analysis of Spatial and Temporal Data" (Springer, 2006), "Visual Analytics of Movement" (Springer, 2013), and "Visual Analytics for Data Scientists" (Springer, 2020), and more than 140 peer-reviewed journal papers.
Natalia Andrienko is the Area Chair for Human-Centered AI and Co-PI of the Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
Gennady Andrienko chaired the Commission on GeoVisualization of the ICA – International Cartographic Association from 2007 to 2015. Together with Natalia, he co-organized scientific events on visual analytics, geovisualization and visual data mining, and co-edited 14+ special issues of major journals.

Natalia and Gennady Andrienko received the test of time award at IEEE VAST 2018, best paper awards at AGILE 2006, IEEE VAST 2011 and 2012, EuroVis 2015, and EuroVA 2018 and 2019, honorable mention awards at IEEE VAST 2010 and EuroVis 2017, VAST challenge awards 2008 and 2014, and best poster awards at AGILE 2007 and 2018, ACM GIS 2011 and IEEE VAST 2016.
